Evaluation of Infiltration/Inflow on Separate Sewer System in Residential Complex

Abstract
Using field studies on sewage flows and Infiltration/Inflow(I/I) analysis in separate sewer systems, the appropriate I/I values were computed, and an alternate method of calculation for I/I was presented. Sewage flows followed a typical diurnal pattern with highs in the morning and evening and lows during the night. The BOD concentration of sewage ranged from 200 to 400mg/L. Diurnal vari-ations in BOD concentration fell slightly during the night, when there were low sewage flows. This is likely the result of dilution due to the inflow of groundwater, but it was difficult to quantify the effect. The infiltration varied considerably in the data, from -14.8% to 14.0% of the daily maximum sewage flow. This is due to the limitations of the method of calculations rather than errors in mea-surement. In short, the method of calculation for night-time domestic flow only takes into account the population of a particular region. Therefore, if the characteristics of night-time activities of residents are different, the method is unable to reflect it. As such, the method of calculation should be updated with continued research. Analysis of the inflow showed that the specific inflow rate was 0.7 to 2.7m³/min, lower than the results of similar studies. The values were higher for regions where the pipe lengths were longer and had a larger number of house-inlets.

분류식 하수관거 체계의 신규 택지개발지구를 대상으로 하수발생량 현장조사 및 I/I 분석을 통해 적정 I/I 값을 도출하고 산정방식의 대안을 제시하였다. 하수발생량은 아침과 저녁에 높고 심야에 낮아지는 전형적인 일변화 패턴을 나타내었으며, 하수의 BOD 농도는 200~400 mg/L의 범위를 보였다. BOD 농도의 일변화는 하수발생량이 적은 심야에 다소 낮아져 지하수유입에 의한 희석효과로 판단되나 정량화하기에는 한계가 있었다. 침입수발생률은 일최대오수량 대비 -14.8%~14.0%로 측정자료의 편차가 크게 나타났는데, 이는 측정오차보다 산정식의 한계로 판단된다. 즉, 침입수발생률 산정을 위한 야간하수발생량 산정식이 대상지역의 거주인구수만 고려하고 있어 거주인구의 야간하수발생특성이 상이할 경우 이를 반영하지 못하는 한계가 있었다. 따라서, 향후 이에 대한 지속적인 연구를 통해 산정식의 보완이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 유입수에 대한 분석결과 비유입수량은 0.7~2.7 m³/min으로 나타나 기존 유사 연구사례에 비해서는 다소 낮은 값을 보였으며, 관거연장이 길고 오수받이 개소수가 많은 지역에서 높은 값을 나타내었다.
